So, you're thinking about a retreat...
I am here to assure you that a yoga retreat might just be THAT thing you didn't know you needed... Let me give you the run-down!
The ENTIRE POINT of a yoga retreat is to immerse yourself deeply into Yoga- ~as a lifestyle~ ...not necessarily the yoga ASANAS- (the poses, the physical practice).
Of course you will have a physical asana practice on your retreat, but it's so much more than that.
Yoga as a lifestyle embodies many things; like opening our hearts to gratitude, living and speaking as our most authentic selves, bonding with other humans, bonding with mother nature, taking intentional breaks for our nervous system to rest, taking intentional time to play and HAVE FUN, taking in new cultures- and opening up to their ways of thinking and being.... And so much more.
A yoga retreat is a vacation for you and your body, but it is also a vacation of the soul.
So, leave your stress at the airplane door and join a yoga retreat yesterday! Today's good too ;)
Here are 5 reasons why it just might change your life:
1.) An international yoga retreat will open you up to discovering more about yourself.
There really is something about intimate solo travel... You don't know anyone. No one knows you... A free pass to leave any and all masks at the door.
This freeing sense of being totally yourself on a soul-investment you took SOLELY FOR YOU is welcomed by your retreat community.
Most yoga retreat destinations are rich with welcoming cultural traditions, delicious, fresh, local food, and other like-minded people just waiting to usher you in.
Combine all of this with immersing yourself into nature and deeply settling into gratitude every day creates a recipe for self discovery, personal empowerment, and radical self appreciation.
2.) A yoga retreat can lead to making life-long friends.
You all came on a yoga retreat for a reason... There was some personal reason or calling that drew you to ONE particular retreat... Though all your reasons may be different, this is what you have in common. The Universe brought you all HERE at the very same time.
The bonding that goes on during a yoga retreat isn't phony, or staged, or hosted in a prayer circle. The bonding happens organically, almost serendipitously, from spending such meaningful time with each and every person on your retreat.
The progressive opening of hearts and release of mental and physical blockages that occur on a yoga retreat will leave you full of sincere appreciation for those around you!
I have kept in touch with so many friends I have met on yoga retreats over the years, and some of them truly feel like family to me now!
3.) A yoga retreat could be the DETOX you need!
Whatever you need to detox from..surely a yoga retreat can help take you there--
Whether it be; social media, unhealthy eating habits, sedentary habits, or procrastination habits, sign up for a yoga retreat and leave all that at the door!
From the moment you step into your yoga retreat the focus is on health, wealth, and abundance! You will discover what it's like to ENJOY waking up and beginning the day with meditation or movement. You will ENJOY (typically) organic abundant meals, healthy, fun, social outings, and plentiful time to rest and recharge.
This will fill up your cup in such a great way, there won't be any room for your old habits here!
(if you don't want to detox...don't worry...yoga retreats have become quite sophisticated as the world moves fast! Most retreat centers now boast WIFI capabilities! And typically, a form of transportation is provided for you to explore the local community, restaurants and shops- depending on the destination you choose! )
4.) A Yoga retreat could be the catalyst to A Happier You
Big realizations about yourself, and the world, as a whole, are commonplace at a yoga retreat... That's kind of how they're designed!
Not to mention the magic surprises sprinkled in by the Universe and the retreat-goers, too.
Sometimes the realizations and revelations you make on a yoga retreat can have you rethinking your way of life back home.
You discover what really matters to you, and you may feel compelled to start taking some steps towards that as the retreat ends! Yoga retreats can spark creativity, reawaken your sense of play and joy, and you may find yourself making a commitment to yourself to stop taking life so seriously!!
These types of beautiful perspective shifts are abundant on a yoga retreat.
5.) YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO DO YOGA !!! (But you may leave with another new interest or practice)
I will tell you with 100% honesty that some people on a yoga retreat DO NOT EVEN DO YOGA! Seriously! Why?..Because a yoga retreat truly IS so much more than a physical yoga practice.
Skip the morning asanas and enjoy your coffee to the sounds of chirping birds and friendly monkeys!
Or opt for, hmm...a morning surf!
Or maybe just sleep in!
You may find yourself on a rainforest hike, practicing headstands in a yoga shala overlooking the ocean, getting some vitamin D lounged by a pool, or exploring the local beaches! The possibilities are endless.
The structured activities are aplenty, but the pressure to join them is nonexistent.
I always make this joke that just the plane LANDING at your retreat destination is half the transformation already complete... Because you did it, you made it there, and you can seriously already start to FEEL that shift inside you as soon as you arrive! That incredible self power!
So, not a "yogi"? Join a retreat anyways!
Challenge yourself to participate, or find your groove in your own completely different way.
If you're not yet convinced... keep doing your research! The yoga retreat offerings are
aplenty, and I KNOW that there is one out there just right for you.
