My Body, My Compass

Collectively, let's all tune back into the subtle signs our bodies are giving us,  explore what they mean for us as individuals, and and realize why it's crucial not to overlook them.

The highly complex human body is incredibly intelligent.

So intelligent, in fact, that it actually possesses the ability to heal itself.

If you've ever experienced a cut or scrape on concrete, you would be familiar with this process. When this happens, you bleed, and your blood acts as a disinfectant for the wound. As new skin forms underneath, a scab develops. Eventually, the scab falls off, revealing newly healed skin - a clear demonstration of the body's self-healing ability.

That is a very basic illustration.

The body has the ability to heal itself in many ways;

  • A liver donor's liver regenerates itself

  • Intestines grow back, their lining

  • Old dead skin sheds away, and new skin cells are formed

  • The brain builds new connections via neuroplasticity

  • Heart, endometrium, fingers, toes, and vas deferens can regenerate naturally

  • Broken bones heal back together

It's crucial to acknowledge and respect the body's intelligent natural functions without trying to suppress them.

In today's society, it is common and even promoted to detach from our bodies.

For instance, many sectors promote the idea of coming to work even when feeling unwell, so as not to disappoint the team.

This behavior is highly esteemed in contemporary workplaces,

seen as a display of determination

and strong work ethic. However, one

must consider the personal toll of

such admiration.

Human habits are formed very

easily.

The brain creates new neural pathways and in no time at all, these self-destructive habits become our new normal.

I invite you, in this moment, to release your attachment to this false information and false praise.

At the end of the day, the body knows best.

Bodily pain and fatigue are often the first signals to our minds that something is off balance and needs to be addressed.

When we ignore our body's call for help, we are putting our entire system in a state of dis-ease.

The body communicates, "HELLO something needs to be addressed please".

And the mind says, "NO ITS FINE, I must continue on the way things are. I don't need to address this".

Just like that, our bodies and minds are distanced, and the delicate symbiotic relationship of the mind/body is now disrupted.

Speaking of the mind, why are we trying so hard to suppress our feelings and emotions?

There is a voice inside all of us, which is, the voice of our higher self. This voice may come through in the mind or in unique physical nudges--some of us may refer to as a "gut feeling."

You maybe have experienced the call of this voice during meditation.

Or maybe just before you decided not to enter that vehicle... or chose not to go to that event... or stayed home that evening because you had a feeling it wouldn't be a good idea.

Or perhaps even, you have heard this voice before taking a significant risk that paid off, or making a successful move.

The voice of our higher self is commonly misinterpreted.

It is often perceived as a sense of fear that we believe can be rationalized.

The reality is, this is the voice of your TRUE self.

Your intuition.

The voice of who you already are.

This is the voice of your Soul at its core, who has lived this life before, and who already knows the path for you to take.

When we suppress our emotions, knocks of intuition, and gut feelings, we are again disrupting the unique synergy of our mind/body.

Instead of powering through unwelcome feelings, emotions, and physical sensations, we must recognize and respect them. Understand that they have surfaced for a purpose to reveal something about ourselves—and it is crucial for us to explore them.

They could be signaling to us a deeper health issue, prompting us to break a detrimental habit, or inviting us to make a significant change in our lives.

Embrace your emotions and intuition wholeheartedly, as denying them may just trigger a physical response caused by an imbalance in your nervous system

Although ignoring things may be effective temporarily, it ultimately harms us in the long run.

Emotions do not get pushed down and disappear. They linger in our bodies and our subconscious minds.

When we try not to think about something, we ultimately give it more power over us.

It is deviously stored in the back of the mind, taking up valuable space in the brain.

Our greatest efforts to dismiss a thought, feeling, or emotion only hinder us from embracing more constructive thoughts. Thus, hindering us from cultivating positivity, blocking us from tapping into our problem-solving skills, and preventing us from fully immersing ourselves in the present moment we are in.

You may be surprised at the insights that are revealed by deciding to fully address the feeling or sensation.

Your body doesn't want to live in dis- ease.

Your nervous system doesn’t want to live in dis-ease.

And Your soul doesn’t want to live in misalignment either.

The body is always actively working to restore balance within us.

And so is the Universe.

Our bodies and the surrounding forces offer subtle signs that require our complete presence to be recognized and valued, yet they are frequently overlooked.

In these moments where we are lacking intuition or losing touch with our bodily signs, we are typically being consumed by the monotony of daily life.

You know you’ve slipped out of awareness when life gets that “autopilot” feeling to it.

(Have you ever driven all the way to work and suddenly realize that you can't remember the entire drive in?!)

It’s time to connect back to our bodies and our intuition.

It’s time to zoom out the lens through which we are experiencing our lives.

Try asking yourself, or journaling on, the questions below:

  • Is your current lifestyle working for you?

  • Are you taking care of others better than you take care of yourself?

  • How are your emotions and self perception lately?

  • Is anything in particular causing you pain?

These questions are designed to make you think deeply about your lifestyle and personal care habits.

Is there anything you'd like to begin removing from your life, or something that warrants further addressing?

If you start thinking of your body as your ultimate compass, it will pave the way for you to recalibrate and rebalance — we just need to know how to slow things down and listen.

Yoga and meditation are great tools for dropping into this state of awareness in a guided, structured way.
